Counting!

Posted by John Repsold on

Dear Mosaic Family.

Only 13 days until Christmas…but who’s counting?

Actually, we’re doing a lot of counting these days at Mosaic.  There are a number of special opportunities we have in the next thirteen days to make Christmas 2017 count in the Kingdom books.  Be sure to put the following opportunities on your calendars as we head to the final countdown for Christmas.

TODAY is our regular monthly Mosaic Monthly Prayer Day in which we take responsibility for praying for 24 hours covering both our nation, city and church.  We have 75% of the half-hour slots covered leaving 12 half-hour openings.  If you would like to build your prayer life and bless our city, we’d love to have you sign up for a half-hour slot on this once-a-month kingdom-building opportunity (the 2nd Wednesday of every month).  The open times are 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, 2:30 & 11:30 a.m. or 12:30, 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, 2:30, 3:00 or 11:30 p.m.  Attached to this email you will find this month’s Prayer Bulletin to help you have plenty to talk with God about during your time.

THURSDAY (12.14) Stephen and Katie Munson are hosting a dessert for Emily Rough at 7:00 p.m. at their home, 1327 E. Wellesley Ave.  Emily will be heading to Madrid, Spain and joining the team both Sandy and I helped start some 30+ years ago. It is now reaching out to North African Muslims in a very innovative and strategic way.  Anyone is welcome to come and hear what God is doing in that part of our world.

FRIDAY (12.15) we will be throwing a Christmas party at Pioneer Pathways for our neighbors, handing out the gifts many of you have donated, singing Christmas carols, hearing a story or two and generally enjoying a good time with our neighbors celebrating Jesus’ birth.  Come join in at 222 S. Howard from 5-7 p.m.

SUNDAY (12.17) we will be putting together Neighborhood Christmas Gift Bags after the 2nd service (at noon).  We’ll be handing out these Christmas gift bags to about 350 neighborhood apartments on Wednesday evening, December 20th, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. as well as caroling as we go. So plan for some great fellowship Sunday and getting more of God’s heart for our neighbors on Wednesday.

In the near future:

  • Christmas Eve Day Services: we will be having three identical services on Sunday, December 24th, at 9:00, 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.  Plan to invite friends and family to celebrate God’s greatest gift to all of us.
  • YFC Food Serve Team: we are looking for 20-25 volunteers who love to have fun cooking, fellowshipping together and serving the youth of our community once-a-month.  Mosaic is putting together a team that will provide a meal every Wednesday and possibly Thursday afternoons (3-5 p.m. prep and serve time) for our YFC students.  If you want to be Jesus’ hands and feet in downtown Spokane once a month, please let us know by emailing Pastor John at or calling the office (509-747-3007) and indicating your availability.
  • We’re making great progress on our fall/winter Heart of Thanksgiving Capital Campaign. So far 21 donors have given over $18,000!  Some 93 “giving squares” have been donated with 282 left (everything from the $8 square to the $367 square). If you’re looking for a concrete way to express your gratitude to God for this wonderful “home” he has provided us in downtown Spokane, may I encourage you to give a “Thank-Offering” of one or several of the squares.  We all benefit so much from having this building so it’s wonderful that showing our gratitude is in the reach of all of us.
  • Pastor John’s Whitworth School of Discipleship cohort study, The 3rd Way, will be relaunching on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-6:45 p.m. in January 2018. If you are interested in joining this group and learning how it was that the early church became such a transformational force in our world and how we can follow in their footsteps in the 21st century, please contact Pastor John at or call him at 710-8026 for more information.  We’d love to have you join this group discussion and study come January 2018.

Counting the days and blessings,

Pastor John
