Pastor's Weekly Update

In the Middle of the Fun!

Posted by John Repsold on

Dear Friends,

One of the wonderful things about being downtown is that when there is a city-wide event like HOOPFEST, we’re right in the middle of all the fun.  Sure, it may make parking on Sunday a little more challenging, but it’s a great reminder that a lot of Spokane looks to downtown to be the place where they live, work and play.

Mosaic wants to make downtown one of the best places in our city to encounter God.

Starting this SUNDAY we’ll be entering into A NEW 3-WEEK SUMMER SERIES called “The Presence—Rekindling Our Passion for God.”  We’ll be seeing how God’s presence changed God’s people and life in both the Old and New Testaments as well as recent history.  There is really noting as powerful as the presence of God.  I invite you to come with hungry and expectant hearts to seek His presence.

Speaking of Sunday, PARKING will be a little different.  If you park in the Diamond Parking lot, this is the one Sunday in the year you need PAY for parking.  Your Mosaic sticker won’t get you a free pass this Sunday.  But there will still be a lot of FREE on-street parking, especially during the earlier hours of the morning.

We’re still looking for artsy and art-wise people to serve on the team that schedules, oversees and shows the upcoming art at Second Space.  Please contact Eric ( ) if you are interested in being a part of this team or if you have any good leads to Spokane artists who might want to show and sell their art in Spokane.

Just a reminder that if you’re looking for a summer Bible study, we have several still going.

Though we’ve just finished with the “Armor of God” series in Ephesians, we’re just beginning with our prayer-encounters with God at Mosaic.  Join the people of God at any of the following prayer experiences throughout the week:

  • Sundays:  All—before first service at 8:30AM in the office; women—between services (10:30-11) in the entryway of the office.
  • Thursdays:  Men—6:30-7:30AM in the office

We’ve just launched the first of 8 weeks of Youth Alpha for this summer.  If you are a junior or senior high school student, we’d love to have you join us every Wednesday evening from 6-8PM.  We start with a meal together and then enjoy teaching, videos, questions and discussions.  This is a great place to air your doubts and ask any questions you have about God, Christianity and life.  It’s also a great way to introduce your friends to Jesus and open dialogue about God.  Come join us at the Tidwell home at 4361 S Greystone Lane (just east of Freya off 42nd Ave.)…and bring your questions.

One way to increase your giving in this period of economic challenge is to us SCRIP.  Here’s how it works.  You go on line to the “Shop With Scrip” web site and purchase “scrip cards” from many of the hundreds of places you normally shop or eat at (grocery stores, fast food restaurants, retail stores, hardware stores, hotels, etc.).  You purchase the cards at their face value for whatever amount you want ($10, 25, 50, 100, etc.) and then twice a month they are mailed to Mosaic where you can pick them up when you are there on Sundays.  Mosaic receives a donation of anywhere from 1-23% of your total purchase value, depending on the particular companies you purchase from.  It’s that simple.
What a smart way to give more money to the work of the Kingdom while engaging in your regular purchases.  It doesn’t cost you anything but the time to go on-line and purchase the scrip cards for places you normally shop anyway.  It’s just plain great stewardship!
Go to http://www.glscrip.com to learn more.  Then contact Sandy if you have specific questions or want to sign up ( ).

Thanks for being great stewards of God’s resources!

Have a blessed week and weekend in the Lord.
