So Many Great (Lenten) Options

Posted by John Repsold on

Do you know where the term “Lent” comes from?  It actually originated in an old English term for the word “Spring”… as in that time of year that seems to have skipped Spokane this year!  Tomorrow begins the 2019 season of Lent with Ash Wednesday, a day dedicated especially to confession, repentance and contrition.

In the Western Church (Latin and Protestant Churches), Lent covers the 40 weekdays leading up to Easter weekend.  It is traditionally a time for God’s people to focus on Jesus and his sufferings for us through spiritual disciplines like fasting, prayer, serving, silence, solitude, etc.—spiritual practices that help us get more in touch with God.

This 2019 Lenten season at Mosaic we’ll be especially focusing as a church on the gift of PRAYER which God has given to all of us.  It is my hope that we will all discover some refreshing and growing connections with God through different types of prayer.  So come and be the church together this weekend as we seek to help each other experience God afresh through prayer.

Speaking of Ash Wednesday, tomorrow we will be launching a Grief-Share Group at 6:30 p.m. in the Lower Level of Mosaic.  Led by a mother-daughter team, this group is designed to help anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one turn that grief into good and positive things in your life.  You are welcome to just come to the first session and check it out to see if it is something that could be of help to you.

This weekend don’t forget to turn your clocks FORWARD one hour as we change to daylight savings time on Saturday night.

Finally, put our new HUB (Healing Urban Brokenness) dedication on your calendar for Saturday, March 23rd at 2:00 p.m.  We just received commitments for the cost of final upgrades yesterday so we’re well on track to this celebration.  If you would be able to help with food prep and serving for that event, please contact Pastors Bob or Jesse (below).  Besides coming and celebrating, we would love to hear from any of you who are interested in offering short life-skills classes to downtown residents through the H.U.B.  Anything like cooking, budgeting, arts, music, etc. classes would be wonderful.  Please contact Pastors Bob or Jesse about your interest at 509-747-3007.  Thanks!

Welcome to Lent!
