Soul Craft: Honoring People

Soul Craft: Honoring People

Passage: 1 Peter 2:11-17

Series: Soul Craft: Honoring People

Detail:

MESSAGE July 17, 2016  (NOTES)

INTRODUCTION TO SCRIPTURE

God’s Word unites his blessings for us and challenges us too: simultaneously.

Especially when life is hard.

Charge:

“Go out into the world in peace. Be Strong. Have courage.  Hold on to what is good. Support the weak. Help those who suffer.  Honor all people.”

Listen to how we to honor.

(I Peter 2: 11 - 17 RSVP edition Scripture here…)

In this ancient letter we are given both blessing and challenge.

Three times this passage challenges us to “honor.”

The Greek word “honor” means … “your whole conduct,” or“ your whole way of life”

AND - “very beautiful.”  or “attractive.”

Honored by Christ – made “attractive" by Christ - we are to focus honoring in several ways.

( 1 ) Conduct yourselves “honorably” … among the Gentiles.”

Gentiles   Greek word ethne”   sub- cultural groups.

Early Christians lived in a world where they values were at odds with the culture  around them.  Christianity was NOT regarded as attractive in their culture.

Our lives are to be our witness – to the way our Lord has so immersed us in His honor that others see Him in us.

Conduct yourselves “Honorably” among the Gentiles.  Let Jesus, who immerses you in honor, so live in you that you both talk about Jesus, and also live in such a lovely way that the loveliness is attractive to others.

Jesus desires  your life to be so honorably – so winsomely -  so love-able that people are won to Christ.

 ( 2 )   Honor those in authority”

Institution of Government

Institution of Marriage and Family

Institution of the Church

Practice honoring all those who lead.

Honor all those in Authority

 ( 3 )  “Honor > everyone

We are to see every person – as God sees them.

Every person  is Made in God’s image  -

Mother and Her daughter

CONCLUSION:

The challenge is to so live - regardless of whether we see results.

We are to enact the values of Gods Word  -

which unites his blessings for us and challenges us too.

Especially when life is hard.

Jesus will continue transform the world.
