Pastor's Weekly Update

Fossils, Fellowship & Fetuses

Posted by John Repsold on

Okay, so the heading for this email may sound like a bit of an alliterated stretch.  But the truth is that the information I have to share this week touches on all of those three “F”s.  So here we go.

Fossils:  Have you ever wondered how ancient fossils fit into a biblical understanding of creation?  That’s only one of the fascinating questions that will be addressed in an upcoming all-city conference Mosaic is a part of entitled “Unlocking the Mysteries of Genesis.”  From Friday evening, October 14 through Sunday afternoon, October 16th, you can be part of some of the most current and cutting-edge research on creationism.  The Institute for Creation Research will be bringing their best and brightest to educate anyone interested on the biblical and scientific arguments for a Genesis creation of our cosmos.  For the price of a couple of lattes, you can hear from and ask questions of leaders in this field of biblical and scientific inquiry.  Go to https://alphaministries.us/icr-conference to register for this conference before September 30th and the price is just $15 for adults and $5 for students.  (After that you’ll have to tack on an additional $5.)  So clear your calendars, go to the website and get ready for a stimulating weekend of learning.

Fellowship:  Now that we’re back into the fall swing of things, we’re also back to our monthly fellowship luncheons.  This Sunday, September 25th, there will be an all-church fellowship lunch following the second service (11:30 a.m.).  (We’ll be serving all things taco—salad, soft and hard tacos, etc.)  We’ll also be rolling out a new fall fellowship initiative called “Supper-for-8”, something that could revolutionize your fellowship connection with others here at Mosaic.  So, plan to have lunch with your church family this Sunday.

Fetuses:  Starting September 28th and ending November 6th, Spokane will be participating in the International 40 Days for Life prayer vigil.  If you would like to simply pray on the sidewalk at or across the street from our local Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, you are invited to pick a time and sign-up at https://www.40daysforlife.com/en/local-campaigns/spokane.  I’ve personally met some of the most wonderful people in Spokane doing this in past years and, as we saw so clearly this year, our prayers make a difference to the millions of children, women and men affected by abortion.  If you are genuinely pro-life, this is one great way to demonstrate that publicly and engage personally in a way that is changing lives around the world.

Lastly, though my brain couldn’t come up with another “F” to alliterate this topic with, I just wanted to let you know about the new teaching series we’ll be starting this Sunday entitled, “Christ-Encounters”.  Over the next few weeks, we’ll be looking at some of the encounters Jesus had with different people in the Gospels and how those encounters can help us assist people we know and love to encounter Jesus.  Let’s pray that, over the next few weeks, each of us encounters Jesus so powerfully that our city and the people we meet in it will never be the same.

Looking to Jesus,

Pastor John
