This month we are joining thousands of our brothers and sisters in the church of Spokane in what I think is one of THE MOST ENCOURAGING & EXCITING ventures God’s people here have every undertaken. I’m talking about SaturateSpokane. Just what is it?
Saturate Spokane is the only time in the history of Spokane that God’s people have ever tried to systematically get the Gospel into every home, every apartment, every dwelling (and hopefully every heart) in our city. Here’s how it works.
Spokane County is divided into 34 zip codes. Each of those zip codes is divided into multiple neighborhoods. Over the past four months, I along with a handful of other believers have been calling and meeting with pastors by the dozens to ask them to simply “adopt their neighborhood.” That means that they will lead their people in going out into the hundreds and sometimes thousands of homes around their church building to give a small gift packet containing 1.) a DVD of the Jesus film (the most viewed film in human history), 2.) a simple tract put out by CRU called “Would You Like to Know God Personally,” and 3.) a flier with information about their church that might interest their neighbors. Our goal is to see every one of the 190,000+ homes in Spokane County having a loving, caring touch of Christ through this gift.
So what does that mean for YOU?
Over the next few weekends, we will be handing out these gift packets in the buildings and blocks of our own neighborhood. But the first step is THIS SUNDAY (October 7th) right after second service Sunday. We will be packing a couple thousand door-hanger bags with the three items mentioned above. Since “many hands make light work”…and since this is something virtually EVERYONE at Mosaic can do (children, adults, disabled, distracted, etc.)… we can easily pound this out in 30-45 minutes this Sunday.
So plan to join in an adventure that will change the lives and eternities of thousands of people in our community. I cannot think of anything more important or strategic to do with just 1 of the 168 hours of life God gives all of us this week than to have fun bringing the Gospel of Jesus Christ together to our community. So plan to be here until 1:00 p.m. this Sunday if at all possible.
In the weeks following this weekend we will be going out in groups of 2-10 people to blanket our neighbors with our prayers, Christ’s love and this amazing Gospel gift. We’ll be letting you know those times and dates starting Sunday.
P.S. If you want to see more about this outreach and what is happening around the country, go to www.saturateUSA.org or look at our own local site at saturatespokane.org.
