October Opportunities
Good Morning, Mosaic.
With Fall now upon us, we’ve got a few new opportunities starting in the next couple of weeks. Here are some groups and experiences you will want to consider as you plan your fall schedule.
LIFE @ MOSAIC: This 4-week group is designed as a first-step to figuring out a few things about life at Mosaic. Who are we as a church? What has God called us to be and do? What’s your place in the body here? What’s your story that God wants to use to build the Kingdom? We will start THIS SUNDAY, go from 4:30-5:45 p.m. for the next 4 weeks (every Sunday in October), and have childcare for younger children. Bring your questions, your Bible and your family for a great time of getting connected to what God is doing at Mosaic and in our community.
Your Story; You’re His-Story: this new monthly group will meet once-a-month for the next 3 months on a Friday night-Saturday morning small group format. Led by Todd & Roxie Fonda, this group is designed to help you see where God has been at work in your story while getting the bigger picture of how your story fits into God’s story in history. Mark your calendars for October 17-18, November 14-15 and December 5-6 for this wonderful journey of discerning God’s work in your life. Be sure to sign up in the foyer at church so we can plan dinner for everyone.
Elder Training: For the past few months we’ve been telling you about a change in our leadership structure that is upcoming. Over the next few months, we’ll be moving from a Ministry Leadership Team (MLT) to several different teams—Elders, Deacons and Deaconesses. In preparation for that, we’re offering an 8-week training for any men interested in exploring whether God might be calling them to be shepherding Elders. If you are interested in exploring this possibility or just want to check out the training, please call or email one of our Pastors (John @ 509-710-8026 or jrepsold@mosaicspokane.com, Bob @ 208-819-6539 or bputnam@mosaicspokane.com, Andrew 509-710-5870 or arepsold@mosaicspokane.com). Training will commence this Monday from 7:00-8:15 p.m. at Mosaic and continue on Monday nights until the end of November. Going forward we will have additional Deacon and Deaconess training sessions after the New Year.
Haven Fall Festival: Once again Mosaic has the privilege of making some great memories for the children at Sister and Mother Teresa Havens. On Friday, October 24th, from 3:00-6:00 p.m., we’ll be sharing games, candy, treats, smiles and the love of Jesus with dozens of families. We need over thirty volunteers for this party so please sign up in the foyer to serve.
City Council Candidate Roundtable: Our Mosaic Men’s Ministry is hosting a roundtable discussion with three of the City Council candidates at our monthly breakfast, Saturday, October 25th, from 8:00-9:30 a.m. Jonathan Bingle, Alejandro Barrientos and Chris Savidge will all be on hand to answer questions. We’re also inviting other church’s men’s groups to this event. So, you might want to hold your ballots until you hear from these men in person. And, as your Pastor, if you aren’t registered to vote or weren’t planning on voting, could I strongly encourage you: as a steward of this amazing privilege of selecting our own leaders, please register to and please vote biblically. This gathering is an attempt to help you do that well.
Shared Hope Seminar: Immediately following the above breakfast, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25th, Mosaic is hosting an education and information time for everyone, especially parents, on protecting children and young people from human trafficking. Shared Hope, a ministry that provides services, shelter, training and education to combat human trafficking, will be providing this training for us. We live in a very different world from what many of us grew up in, one that is increasingly dangerous for children, even in the privacy of our homes. Please consider taking the 90 minutes necessary to learn how to protect children from sexual exploitation as well as spot the signs of trafficking in our community so we can stop the exploitation. Spokane is, sadly, one of our nation’s worst cities for sex trafficking. It’s time to push back against this darkness while protecting our own loved ones with the light.
Finally, I trust you are continuing to pray for an ongoing work of the Spirit in our nation in drawing people to Jesus. Something is stirring. Most pastors I talk with today are seeing it in their neighborhoods and churches. Unchurched people are showing a heightened interest in God’s Word and returning to church. Join us this weekend as we look at what Paul says is the power of God in the Gospel that He’s entrusted to us. And be sensitive to the opportunities God is opening to you these days to invite people to come and see that power at work in us, the church.
See you at the Table,
Pastor John
