The Times We're In

Published September 19, 2025

Dear Mosaic Family,

God is doing something unique this week and, in my limited knowledge of American history, unprecedented. I cannot point to the assassination of another brother in Christ and political leader in our nation’s history that has had anywhere near the spiritual impact that the death of Charlie Kirk a week ago today is having presently. Something is stirring in the hearts of millions of people that is causing many to seek God, go to church and hunger for God’s Word.

Spiritual awakenings and transformational revivals always come in surprising and unexpected ways. If the death of Charlie is a spark God has chosen to use to start a fresh spiritual fire in a new generation, we must be wise, thoughtful and careful in our stewardship of what is unfolding. That is why this weekend could be extremely critical for you and me.

Tomorrow (Friday, September 19th), is our regularly scheduled monthly Revival Prayer Gathering for Spokane. Only this time, we’re the host church. And this time, as God would have it, we are dedicating 6 of the 12 hours to being challenged by a brother in Christ, Larry Lane, Director of Revival Road Ministries and Senior Fellow with the national ministry called Project Pray. Larry comes to us from Tennessee with a lifetime of experiences and wisdom about revivals that have transformed entire communities and nations. I do not think this is by accident “for such a time as this.” Please follow the Spirit’s lead about growing in your experience of God through prayer in this unique and strategic event.

Sunday Pastor Andrew will be bringing both worship and God’s Word. His generation and younger are the ones who are particularly being impacted by the events of this past week. To address that, we will be interrupting our series in 1st Corinthians, allowing him to address “Living in the Light of God’s Truth Given the Death of Charlie Kirk.” The Spirit of God has led him specifically to Philippians 1 to help us do that. There we are told how to live when confronted with the darkness of evil like we are seeing all around today. How can we rightly process anytime a Christian is experiencing suffering? How does the grace of God we saw last week work itself out in events like this week? Andrew will be addressing six or seven truths which we must all wrestle with in light of evil and suffering.

Psalm 112:4 says, “Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.” May we be those who are just that so that God’s light may break through the darkness of our day.
