What Lasts
It’s great to be home! As much as we loved our trip to the Holy Lands and many of the places where Paul planted the early church, we are delighted to be back with you, God’s people, “God’s building” (1 Cor. 3:9).
One of the things our journey through centuries of history in that part of the world taught us was that even massive stone structures built to amaze the human eye do not endure like the power of the Gospel. The impressive ancient cities of Ephesus, Corinth, Athens and Jerusalem are mostly rubble today. But the truth of Jesus Christ that Paul and the Apostles preached two-thousand years ago is still transforming more people by far than all those amazing edifices from the Acropolis to the Temple Mount.
That is why what you and I do week after week to grow in Christ and be God’s holy temple in this world (1 Cor. 3:16) is more important both now and throughout eternity than all the impressive pagan civilizations and ruins the world has ever seen. That is why gathering together as those “living stones” (1 Peter 2:5) that form God’s holy temple in the world today matters so much. That is why each of us must be very careful how we build this temple, the church. We’ll be looking at that topic this Sunday as we continue our study in 1 Corinthians 3 around the topic of “Divine Building Codes”.
This weekend also holds some very special events.
• Dr. Don Grim’s Memorial Service will be taking place at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday) at Mosaic. Dr. Don, as we affectionately referred to him, has been a part of Mosaic from our humble beginnings 17 years ago. He was a quiet, humble, and gentle servant of the Lord and of God’s people as a member of our initial Financial Team and most recently our Ministry Leadership Team (MLT). If you’re able to come celebrate his life, plan to stay afterwards for a light “finger-food pot-luck” lunch. (Any contributions of finger food snacks will be appreciated.)
• Bruce Anderson Q&A: If you are interested in hearing more about Bruce’s work and ministry in PNG after last Sunday, he will be having a time of sharing this Saturday (tomorrow), November 15th, at 3:00 pm, at Sandy Tidwell's home. If you didn’t already sign up last weekend and would like to attend, please email us at missions@mosaicspokane.com and let us know of your interest.
May the God whose kingdom continues to advance in power advance in us and our gatherings this weekend. See you at the temple, His church.
Pastor John
